Providing your own transportation: How to get here
- IMPORTANT: for Google Maps, if driving a car or motorbike, route yourself in CAR MODE (even if using a bike) to:
1. Tabanan General Hospital
2. Espa Hot Springs, Penatahan
3. Bali Silent Retreat - DANGER: roads to the north and west are dangerous/broken.
- ALERT-RAINY SEASON! Please check your weather app. If rain is predicted at time of your arrival, please drive with safety in mind and avoid ‘back roads’.
- Bali Silent Retreat is located in Tabanan Regency, approximately 1hr NW of Ubud or 2.5hrs North of Denpasar airport by car. It is near village of Penatahan, (just off the road to Pura Luhur Batukaru, Wongaya-Gede.
- Providing your own transportation is fine. For clarification, please call or WhatsApp call Baby Ketut, (+62 81139606082).
LATE ARRIVAL
Please do not arrive at Retreat after 4:00pm, as it becomes too dark to navigate the site for your orientation. If you cannot arrive by 4:00pm you will need to stay overnight in alternate accommodation, near the airport or in Ubud, arriving at the retreat the next day. Our Transport Coordinator, Baby Ketut, will email you within 24 hours for your transport needs. He currently recommends the following hotels near the airport, which can be researched online. Make a booking directly with the hotel:
- Harris Hotel Tuban, just 5 minutes from the airport; free transport but you have to ask for pick up.
- Novotel Hotel at Airport is inside of Bali International Airport
IMMIGRATION

CREDIT CARDS
Notify your credit card and ATM banks, about your travel plans, so they don’t block your card. PAYMENT ALERT: Our Indonesian bank has informed us: “Due to the war in Europe specific credit cards from eastern Europe are blocked.” If your card is on that list, it cannot be used for payment. Payment is required Before check-in.
Cancellation policy: Please cancel 48 hours prior to your check in date, so the room can be available to other guests.
Cancellation after check-in: If you need to check out earlier than your full booking dates, a one-night penalty fee will be deducted from your refund amount as we frequently turn guests away because we are sold out.
Please be sincere about your booking dates.
WHAT TO BRING
- The days are hot, the nights are cool (35°C/95°F-13°C/55°F)
- Laundry for your personal items is available and takes 1-2 days.
- Bring comfortable clothing suitable for movement and meditation practice.
- Afternoon rainstorms are common (Although umbrellas are provided, bringing a poncho or jacket can be a good idea).
- Rubber flip flop sandals (easy for off/on, when going in/out of buildings).
- Bring your own toiletries. We only provide natural mosquito repellent and soap for body & hair (NO special amenities; ie hair products, toothbrushes, toothpaste, sanitary products, etc.)
- Headlamp, if you have one.
- Do not bring food. We are in the middle of rice fields and the cute little field-mice will smell the food, think it’s party time and chew through your luggage.
- Note we’re on solar power: no outlets in rooms to plug in hair dryers/phones.
Electronics
Laptops and mobile phones disturb the energy of this peaceful environment so please minimize their use during your stay. Wi-Fi (Fiber Optic Land Line & a Wi-Fi router) is at Co-Workspace near the office; available 24-7. Nice 360 view of mountains & rice fields and the wifi is good.
NOTE: no power outlets in rooms. Devices can be recharged only at Co-Workspace.
Not Available nor allowed:
- Alcohol or Drugs.
- Caffeine* or Meat (ask office about coffee choices available at co-workspace.)
- Use of electronics, except at the co-workspace.
- Social talking, except at the office, co-workspace area.
Security
We have 24-hour security on site. Lock boxes are available in the Lodge to safely store your money and valuables, including electronics. Please note that our rooms are lockable only from the inside.
WHAT TO EXPECT
At Check-In:
You will register with the Office Angels: copy of your passport and pay any outstanding balances.
We accept Cash or Card. *NOTE: unfortunately, Indonesian Banks will only accept cash bills that have no damage (no tear or rip or writing marks)
NOTE: When paying cash with Indonesian Rupiah or US Dollars papers/bills must be in good condition. Only bills from 2009 forward are acceptable. (Sorry, the bank will not accept damaged bills, when we deposit into bank.
You will receive:
- Orientation information.
- Lock box key.
- Kimono, towels and your own personal set of dishes and cutlery.
- Comprehensive tour & orientation of room, lodge, grounds; approx. 20 mins.

- You can make personal phone calls from the co-workspace near reception.
